East-West struggle is a major theme in R. K. Narayan’s novels. This paper is an attempt to demarcate the struggle between tradition and modernity–one of the aspects of East-West conflict–in Narayan’s The Bachelor of Art’s and discovers the massive amount of R.K. Narayan’s works and his handling of love, marriage and family. His novels are considered by uncomplicatedness and mild humour. His fiction practices an extensive image with a multi – faceted prediction of marriage as the focal point of life. This article aims at portraying Narayan’s treatment of love with its beauty and wretchedness of human nature and behaviour, and also to investigate subterranean into the essence of man-woman relationship.
