Abstract :

Ecocriticism is the study of literature and environment. It investigates the relation between humans and the natural world in literature. It was officially heralded by the publication of two seminal works, both published in the mid-1990s: The Ecocriticism Reader, edited by Cheryll Glotfelty and Harold Fromm, and The Environmental Imagination, by Lawrence Buell. Girish Karnad is the most renowned playwright of the contemporary Indian stage. He writes in Kannada and then translates his plays into English. He has earned international recognition as a playwright and translator. He is the multifaceted personality: a scriptwriter, actor, producer and director of Indian cinema. His latest play is  Boiled Beans on Toast(2014). Here the city-Bangalore itself is the protagonist and this play can be analyzed in ecocritical  perspective also.
