Abstract:

With the advent of modernization and globalization, issues such as nation, nationality, identity, displacement and dislocation have become a major concern resulting to the shambles of cultural and heritage and loss of moral centre to hold on in the region like Northeast India. These issues capture the imaginative world of the northeast writers and find a forceful expression in all their writings. In fact, these issues are the harbingers of violence and terror in the region. Due to its complex political structures, crisis of identity and the prolonged rule of the gun, their literary consciousness provide the very image of political war, violence and bloodshed of the region. The article reviews the selected writings of Temsula Ao and Indira Goswami to demonstrate the socio-political and socio-economic structures of their states. This paper attempts to explore the conflicting situations arising out of domination, oppression and marginalization by the authority and how the ordinary people and women survive in such a region.
