Abstract

Mahasweta Devi has expressed her creative vision through her novels, short stories, plays, and essays. Her radical vision and close affinity with the cause of social revival, she was forced to undertake different types of jobs like selling of soaps to the exporting of monkeys.  As a sensate social thinker, she deeply felt the pain of poor and downtrodden.  She started her career as to expose the problems of the marginalized section of society in the Bengal’s dailies like Jugantar. This article Enslavement of women in Mahasweta Devi’s Mother of 1084, focuses on how the female characters are suffered in the mainstream society.  The female characters are struggled a lot and they survived their life with silent sufferings.  They were dedicated their entire life to their family, husband and children, but the society did not consider their dedication that much important. Female suffering character like Sujata, Nadini, and Somu’s mother Devi’s literary creations have significantly contributed to bring about, awareness in the society.
