This paper reveals about the Indianism and Indian context in the novels of R.K Narayan. His novels and short stories mostly reflect the culture, tradition and life style of Southern Indians. Lexis that are used in his short stories book especially “Under the banyan tree and other stories” truly manifests the contexts of day to day life of a common flock in India. Narayan’s skillfulness in transforming Indianism into English through phrases and Idioms is mirrored through this book which containsTwenty-eight stories to the rich and colorful collection of various characters that resemble people in and around us that of taken place in his imagery town Malgudi. The prominent few stories among this book are taken contextually for detailing the impact of Indian native vocabulary into English.
