Kashmir in Creative Writings: A Study of Shahnaz Bashir’s Novel The Half Mother

Abstract

Kashmir is being an essential thought in the creative writings of different scholars and professional writers round the globe. Some have praised its mesmerising beauty while there are others who depict another side of the picture of heaven. The second novel of the booker prize winner novelist Arundhati Roy’s The Ministry of Utmost Happiness is an example. Likewise the Novelist, Kashmir itself has given birth to such eminent creative writers who burn midnight oil to give wings to the sufferings and issues of Kashmiri people concerning their long struggle of freedom movement and Shahnaz Bashir is one among them. The study will concentrate on his novel The Half Mother which tells a heartbreaking story of a women who battles for life, dignity, and justice. The paper attempts to explore all such themes embedded in the novel which gave a new interpretation to the term Kashmir, a paradise on earth.
