Indian writing in English began with the first recognized and available major work by Sake Dean Mohammad, a Bengali Anglo Indian traveller, who wrote, “The Travels of Dean Mohammad”. Since then, many Indian writers have tried their hand in English. Apart from mainstream poets and novelists, politicians, philosophers social reformers and educationists have written a large bulk of fictional and non-fictional literature in English.
While some of these works have become popular and prominent, to gain an entry into the academic curriculum, the other authors’ name surface only when making a historical record of Indian Writers in English.
