In the current teaching and learning scenario in India, large classrooms with more than sixty students have become inevitable. The multicultural and multilingual heterogeneity of the classrooms puts the English Language instructors in a testing situation. Interaction sometimes is limited to only a few students, chaos pervades in the class during discussions and disciplinary issues come to the forefront. As such, it is quite challenging for the teachers to maintain quality in teaching and to promote learning. This paper tries to identify various problems faced by both instructors and learners and suggests some feasible interaction methods and strategies for effective language learning to happen in classrooms.
