Abstract:

The Indian society consists of several marginalized communities. Various factors caused marginalization in Indian society. The marginalized people are the downtrodden people who are dominated and exploited by the privileged sections of the society.  The plight of these people became more intense during the colonial period. The British made them suffer more in British India. The socially concerned persons, especially the writers have depicted the sorrow and suffering of these folk through their writings. Mulk Raj Anand has also focused this through his famous novel, Two Leaves and a Bud that portrays picture of oppression and tragedy of downtrodden folk during the colonial rule in India. The present paper attempts to bring out the plight of the tea garden workers in Assam under British plantations.
