Abstract

The rationale of my research paper is to recognize and scrutinize elements of desperate survival with reference to American authors like Maya Angelou. Extreme anxiety can exist in many forms and Maya Angelou’s life scuffle is a classic example to authenticate this social realism. Maya had been marginalized in many ways and she as a black woman faced racist stances almost her life. She was denied on many occasions of the better prospects which she deserved. As a child, she lived kept travelling between different home and faced displacement  and later in her teenage years faced the challenges of  being a single working mother and she experimented with different roles and did not get fair opportunities to prove herself . As an adult, she had three failed marriages and in her existential subsistence of self she had to deal with society as a large barrier and with the on-going battle continuing within herself she realizes of her true roots in America. Later, while working for the black people she realizes and acknowledges the colour barriers brings in with it and educates people to come out of that mode and see world with a broader perspective.
