Abstract: Indian women have reached on the top of the world. Their status has increased in all the aspects. In the fields of politics, education, economy, sports and so on there have been remarkable achievements to the credit of women. But it is not proportional to the actual talents and capabilities of Indian women. Constitution of India provides equal status for both women and men. Indian government has undertaken a number of legislative measures to safeguard the interest of women. In spite of all the efforts, female literacy rate is much lower than male literacy rate. Their contribution to the national GDP is very low. Women politicians are few and their role in decision making and administration is limited. In sports women are lagging behind in popularity and financial benefits compared to men. There is a huge waste of human resources as we ignore the potentials of women. The Indian society is biased in favor of male child. This mind set of the people should change. There should be equal dignity and opportunities for both women and men. Women should not be left alone to do domestic work along with their outside professional work.
