The present research work aims at exploring the psychological make-up of characters in the play Sakharam Binder by Vijay Tendulkar. Sakharam, Laxmi and Champa inhabit the same space and the power struggle that goes throughout the play in varied nuances sheds light on different perceptions of patriarchy, verbal abuse, effects of childhood physical abuse, rot in the institution of marriage and family and exploitation of an individual. The shifting nature of the abuser and victim in each of the characters in different situational dynamics forms an interesting and complex study. The research paper tries to draw conclusions regarding the predicament of humans in a society which is beset with power struggle at every level.
