Abstract

Shakespeare’s career as a dramatist lasted probably for twenty years, that is, from 1590to
1612.shakespeare’s plays have been conditioned a great deal by the stage that he wrote for and the
world that he lived in. The Elizabethan audience craved for noise and outcry, for pomp and
pageantry and Shakespeare provided them with plenty of it in every one of his plays. They liked
broad jests and puns and word-jugglery. Shakespeare did not hesitate to let them have their fill of
the same.
Macbeth is King Duncan’s enemies and, on his way back home with his lieutenant
Banquo, meets three witches who predict that Macbeth will be made the Thane of Cawdor and will
finally become the king of Scotland. The prediction of the witches partially comes true, as
KingDuncan, pleased with Macbeth’s valor, promotes him to the position of the thane of Cawdor.
Duncan is invited by Macbeth to spend the night in his castle. Egged on by his wife, Macbeth
murders sleeping Duncan and, smearing the blood on the sleeping guards, puts the blame on them.
To save himself Macbeth murders the guards also. Duncan’s elder sun flees to England.
