Abstract

Globalization is one of the leading characteristics of the contemporary world. It leads to the interpenetration of countries, regions, markets, communication and ideas across various countries. The second novel in AmitavGhosh’s Ibis trilogyRiver of Smoke draws its characters from different parts of the world. Different facets of globalization arewell described in this novel. Here the after effect of this phenomenon can be perceived in certain specific events, in the life style of people, in patterns of trade and the mode of communication. Further it provides wide possibilities to explore the maximum potential of an individual.
