Abstract

The Dominican Republic is a mulatto country situated in the Caribbean island. The people of the Dominican Republic belong to a mixed ancestry of Taino, European and African. The racism practised in the Dominican Republic is termed as ‘Antihaitianism’.  ‘Antihaitianism’ refers to the hatred developed by the Dominicans towards the Haitians due to their African ancestry. The Dominicans hate black skinned people even though they belong to their own ethnicity. Rafael Trujillo followed strict racism. He did the genocide named as ‘The Haitian massacre’ killed the Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic. Dominicans and Haitians take opposite poles in antihaitianism. The Dominicans hate their fellow people if they are darker than them. They like the companionship of white because of their rejection to their African roots. They like themselves to be identified as European descendants. They like the companionship of white because of their African denial. They like themselves to be identified as European descendants.
