An Integration of the Learning Skills and the Thinking Skills to enhance the Reading Competence among the L2 Learners – A Study

Abstract

In the technological world, acquisition of the four skills listening, speaking, reading and writing for the L2 learners has been made simple through English language teaching.  Among the four skills listening and reading are considered as passive skills whereas speaking and writing are considered as active skills.  As most of the times the L2 learners tend to focus on the active skills as the curriculum itself paves way for it. The passive skills listening and reading are also to be emphasized amidst the learners to enhance their comprehensive skills and also their analytical skills which have become the most important for them to gain confidence and to progress in the professional world.  Hence the researchers tend to use metacognition, as it helps the learners to recognize their challenges they face during their learning, in the framework of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). This paper focuses on reading skill as it is most studied by the experts.   Hence, the researchers propose a study to integrate CLIL with metacognitive strategies to enhance the reading competence among the L2 learners.
