Abstract

Gender bias is a division of gender in a way which gives preference one sex over the other. In this paper, I like to show how male child is preferred and girls are being neglected in India with reference of some Indian English women writers. I have selected Shasi Despande’s The Dark Holds No Terrors and Kamala Markandaya’s Necter in a Seive . The negligence and humiliation and mental torture of a girl child of Indian family are highlighted through these selective novels.  My attempt is to protest against the gender discrimination at the very domestic level. The other purpose of this paper is to explore the inner strength and potential of women to survive in this male dominated society.
