Abstract

Abstract

Discrimination on the basis of caste or colour has been a common practice by human race. The discrimination on either yields similar repercussions. It weaves the tale of woe, sufferings and pain in the life of an individual. The present paper explores and examines the notion of discrimination, by adopting a cross cultural perspective with reference to Mulk Raj Anand’s portrayal of casteist discrimination and Harper Lee’s analysis of racial discrimination. It can be inferred that racism and casteism are ‘mere nothings’ as they are mere social constructs. This social evil can only be eradicated from society when we treat every human being equally. KEWORDS: cateism, racism, cross-cultural, psychological effect, shackles, equality.
