Abstract

The world is split into thousands of countries inhabited by different people with their own dialect, native languages and cultures. Diversity pervades all over the planet in various forms. It is not possible for an individual to learn so many languages. In Indian sub-continent there are so many variations in the dialects and intonations in the same state also. What we need today is some commonality in communication which would make verbal transfer understandable/ comprehensive from the mother-tongue to the other tongue English seems to be a link language to absorb all linguistic diversities. As the British have ruled over more than half the world, English language seems to be most common accepted language for communication. Increased globalization and widespread immigration have made readers more aware of cultural anomalies and are exposed to fresh ideas and insights.
