Abstract

Ethnicity and consciousness are inter - related terms. Ethnic, according to the Oxford dictionary is defined as “Relating to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition.” Consciousness means the state of awareness of being part of such a group. The Ethnic groups, at least theoretically, cut across socioeconomic class differences, drawing members from all strata of the population.
