Ethnicity and consciousness are inter - related terms. Ethnic, according to the Oxford dictionary is defined as “Relating to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition.” Consciousness means the state of awareness of being part of such a group. The Ethnic groups, at least theoretically, cut across socioeconomic class differences, drawing members from all strata of the population. Journeys and Tales are peculiar with the Parsee community in India. Mistry gives importance in portraying the social reality of India as it is. Ranging from the Parsees, the repertoire of his characters include the chamars, the tailors, the thakurs, the beggars, the students, Mistry has portrayed a lot of people in his novels.
