Animal Cruelty in Literature: An Ecocritical Analysis

Abstract

Ecocriticism is an interdisciplinary field. There are many sub-genres of ecocriticism. This paper tries to project the inhuman and brutal torture human beings inflict on non-human animals. This atrocity can well be analysed under the lens of deep ecology and ecofeminism.Human activities, mostly anthropocentric in nature, disrupt the biocentric equality. So the researcher has strived to make an analysis of a select literary texts from eocritical angle where animals suffer the pangs of brutality committed by men. This analysis tries to locate how human atrocity has forced the animals to live a tragic life on this earth.
