Abstract

With the globalization of knowledge and culture the need for acquiring good Communicative English by one and all has assumed great significance in this twenty-first century. In fact, the demand for learning effective communicative English has never been so great as it stands today. It is interesting to note that during the last two decades the use of English for communicative purposes has not been confined only to the elite group of the society. People from the middle and lower-middle classes are equally keen on learning and using it effectively. Consequently, Graduates considered spoken English as a passport for the guaranteed success in employability. English language skills and employability are interrelated to one another. The better communicative skills an individual has, the higher their scope of employability is. It is also a known fact that employment retention and career enhancement are the next challenges, for securing an employment. Effective communication skill in English is one of the biggest factors faced by unemployed community even though they have technical excellence. The present paper throws light on the strategies of acquiring spoken discourse through Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills. It also tries to explain some of the features of soft skills to be inculcated in students for their better tomorrow.
